Wolf Poppy survived James’s jackass wolf bite! She’s now in Blake’s castle being watched over by Blake and Callum, and I just don’t get how anyone thinks this is normal, that these two alphas with entire castles, which imply surrounding villages also under their management, have nothing better to do than to sit around and bicker about Wolf Poppy for days. No matter! They’re not amused that James bit her, so now Callum is totally going to take the throne from his brother!

Until James is overthrown Wolf Poppy spends her time fretting about Callum, who she’s known for like two weeks now?, telling Blake he’s an a*&hole, and working on her freedom dream board.

Callum needs to rally more wolves to support his bid for Wolf King, so this wolf named Lachlan and some of his people stop by Blake’s castle for some kind of moon thing. Lachlan is looking for the Heart of the Moon, well, they all are, and might be a bit miffed with Wolf Poppy because some of his people were killed, I think? when Sebastian sent out people to find his beloved princess after she hit a guard on the head and ran off to tell more people in the north that she’s a princess.

No worries! Lachlan likes Wolf Poppy! But James, being James, tossed Fiona, one of Callum’s friends, into a suite at his castle and is now demanding Wolf Poppy be returned to him in exchange for her. They’re like nah. Then James shows up to the wolf moon thing and is all, I want me property! They’re like nah. But Wolf Poppy is like, I don’t want to start a war! I will go with…. Then Blake bites her and claims her as being part of the leather pants clan. Suck it, James! Errr, okay, this makes no sense to me since James bit her first, but it’s Wolf law!

This, obviously, makes Callum really mad that his girlfriend of like ten days now smells like Blake, again! Dammit, woman! Being the popular houseguest she is, Wolf Poppy is soon kidnapped and delivered to James. She’s like tied up in some kind of dining hall when Callum and Blake stroll onto the scene to complain to James. James is all, blah blah blah. Tell you what, if Blake kisses Wolf Poppy, I’ll let her go. Callum’s like, okay, do it, Wolf Poppy! And she’s like, wft? So Blake kisses her and then they decide to bust her out, and it’s like, you couldn’t have just walked up to her and busted her out without kissing her? No!
In the melee Blake takes a wolfsbane bullet, so he’s kind of blubbering dead weight for Wolf Poppy to haul around while Callum deals with James. Wolf Poppy gets Blake to a chapel and helps him with the gunshot wound he took for her when someone appears and is all, Callum is the Wolf King! So that was easy.

Then there’s this guy named Alexander who wants to kidnap Wolf Poppy for the God of Night? I think that’s his title? There’s all this talk of acolytes rising to help Night do stuff, which is like, so they’re what, now? There’s a sun goddess, a moon goddess, and Night, I think. The mythology is kind of all over the place for me, so I just kind of half listen to it. And the moon goddess, I think it’s the moon goddess, was tossed in a cell in Night’s castle in exchange for him not releasing all of his creatures on the good people of wherever. Wolf Poppy and Blake spend a good chunk of the book running around Night’s dungeon lair in their dreams. Because of the bond!

As King, Callum is now always annoyed with Wolf Poppy. And it’s like, guys, it’s been eight days, you need to make take a step away. She just wants to break the Blake bond so Callum will love her again, and it’s just, girl, you keep talking about freedom, you climbed that small hill, like, stop making everything about Callum. But she’s all, I’ll fix all of this! And I’m like, why?
Fixing all this mainly requires Wolf Poppy to spend most of her spare time stalking Blake in his bedroom and shoving him against stuff to tell him how much she doesn’t like him. She touches him a lot, which is also weird. Her new mission is to figure out how to break their bond! Time for a updated dream board!

On yet another Wolf Poppy jaunt to stalk and touch Blake, Blake gets arrested by Callum and tossed in the dungeon. Callum doesn’t even show up, it’s Lachlan who arrests Blake. Callum is so checked out. And it’s like, yo, Callum, your girl is a Blake stalker, lock her up.

Nope, Callum decides the best course of action is some Tiddlywinks, then sending Wolf Poppy off with her brother, Phillip, who recently showed up, to go somewhere to find the Heart of the Moon. Because the Heart of the Moon is the only way to break her mate bond with Blake! She’ll do it and come back for Callum! She promises! Like, it’s been five days! No matter! Off Wolf Poppy goes with Phillip to find the Heart and break the bond!

Only to be quickly kidnapped. Again.

Wolf Poppy is taken by Alexander to the Grey Keep where he has her whipped to try to bring her power to the surface and make his master happy. Sure, buddy.

After we’ve had our heroine sufficiently traumatized with torture, Blake shows up and isn’t overly excited to see his mate being whipped. There’s a fight and Blake and Wolf Poppy are about to get away when Alexander releases one of Night’s creatures, some kind of serpentine thing that likes to eat people and wolves. Oh, and James and his mate, Claire are here, too. But chained up as a snack, they’re not in Alexander’s cult.

Blake’s like, Wolf Poppy, you need to stop being such and a-hole about your power, girl, maybe help so we don’t all die! She’s like, I’m a princess! I don’t think I can! But then she takes a minute to have some kind of a dream vision, then is all, okay, and kills the creature. Then Blake’s killed for being an idiot, but Wolf Poppy is the Heart of the Moon, so she brings him back.
James is all, I’ll stop trying to kill you, Wolf Poppy, we’re friends now since you’re pretty much a goddess, let’s go kill southerners! And she’s all, I want to marry Callum as a queen! Let’s go get my kingdom, and Blake’s like, let’s go, not like I have villages at home that need help.

Then Wolf Poppy has a dream that shows the Blake actually belongs to Night, and she’s all wtf, and Blake’s all, calm down, yes, I’m a monster, but I’m the only one who can help you, which I’ve shown by trying to sell you to James and getting you tortured. Since dead Alexander just went and ratted you out to Night, he’s coming and I totally know his playbook. Let’s boogie. And she’s like, fine, I’d just stalk and touch you, anyway.
